遺伝子増幅法（PCR）のような遺伝子検査は、病原体の個体間の遺伝子多様性は存在しないことを前提条件としている。

 

遺伝子ワクチンの基本的にあるものは、病原体は均一の遺伝子を持った集団であることを前提にしている。

 

しかし、RNAウイルスは、遺伝子修復の仕組みが十分でないために、多くの変異体が存在する。

 

遺伝子の変異型は、天文学的な種類が存在する可能性がある。
